Alexandra McFarland MSW, RCSWI
Alexzandra McFarland is a dedicated and compassionate Registered Clinical Social Work Intern (RCSWI) with the Florida Department of Health. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, Alex earned her Bachelor of Social Work in 2021 and began working in the field even before completing her degree. During her senior year, she joined a residential treatment center for adolescent girls, where her exceptional leadership skills quickly earned her a promotion to residential supervisor at the age of 22, making her the youngest to hold that position.
In 2023, Alex relocated to North Carolina to broaden her career experience. Over the next two years, she worked with foster children and their families, adults with eating disorders, and foster children in need of emergency placements. During this time, she was accepted into Indiana Wesleyan University’s Advanced Standing Master of Social Work (MSW) program and graduated in December 2024.
Alex’s professional journey reflects her passion for working with children and adolescents. She has extensive experience supporting children with autism, depression, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, reactive attachment disorder, and other challenges. Her approach emphasizes empowering children and fostering their growth through a strengths-based perspective and systems theory.
A firm believer in the importance of understanding the connections between emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, Alex integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) into her practice. She is also certified in multiple care models, including Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Person-Centered Planning (PCP), the Teaching Family Model, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and CARE (Children and Residential Experiences). Additionally, Alex is qualified to conduct training for both the Teaching Family Model and TCI.
Alex’s greatest strengths lie in her empathy, trustworthiness, and ability to build strong connections with children quickly. Her interpersonal skills create a safe and comfortable environment for her clients, enabling them to thrive and achieve their goals. She aspires to bring her wealth of experience to a school setting, continuing to make a positive impact on children and adolescents.
